Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (B) – Education Sunday

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

God our Father has called us together to live in the community of the Christian Church. As we bring to mind his many blessings on us, and on this Education Sunday and the time of Harvest let us ask God for the grace we need to live together as true Christians.

READER

We pray for the Church. We give thanks for the vision of Church leaders who placed the education of young people at the heart of Jesus’ invitation to “make disciples of all nations.” May the Church continue to guide and inspire communities of faith, who gather in your name. Lord hear us.

We pray for the world and young people everywhere, especially those who through conflict, poverty or oppression, do not have access to education. May you guide world leaders to recognise education as a source of hope for the future. Lord hear us.

We pray for God’s blessing on the harvest and the fruits of all our work: may we always be grateful for the gifts God gives us. Lord hear us.

We pray for children and young people in our Parish and in our schools. Fill them with hope, courage and determination to face new and exciting challenges and experiences as they start a new school year. We pray too for the Teachers and Support staff who look after and guide them. Lord hear us.

We make our prayers with Mary, Mother of our God, as we say together:       Hail Mary ….

We pray in silence for our own needs.

PRIEST

God our Father, hear our prayer. Look with compassion on the needs of all your children. Grant us the grace to value each person as you value them. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
