Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

Jesus Christ suffered and died for our sakes. May we now ask God our Father for the grace to understand the value of suffering in the Christian life.

READER

We pray for the Church under persecution: may she unite her sufferings with those of her Lord and Master and be a powerful source of grace in a world which is selfish and materialistic. Lord hear us.

Let us pray for politicians in government: may they have the moral courage to stand up and be counted in the face of ridicule for the truths of the faith in which they believe. Lord hear us.

For those who fear pain and suffering: may they know peace of mind and heart as they place their trust in the Lord’s power to save. Lord hear us.

We pray for all those with responsibility for the terminally ill: may they see their rewarding work as the final preparation for life without end for those whom the Lord has entrusted to their tender care. Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Mother of Christ, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray in silence for our own intentions to God our Father.

PRIEST

God our Father, we make our prayers to you with confidence in the knowledge that all we suffer in this life will be as nothing when compared to the eternal joy and happiness waiting for us in the next life. We make our prayer though Christ our Lord. Amen.
