Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

God our Father has revealed the Kingdom of Heaven to us through the teaching of his Son, Jesus Christ. Today we ask the Lord for a greater understanding of his plan for our world.

READER

We pray for the Church: may her teaching about God’s kingdom, to which she leads everyone, be simple and direct. May her message touch hearts as well as minds:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for those in charge of industry: may they reconcile profits for their companies with the rights and dignity of each individual worker so that the purpose of work in God’s plan is not debased:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us remember those who are unemployed: may they use their time well to reflect on life and its ultimate purpose, resisting the temptation to give in to bitterness and depression. May the Lord open up new avenues of employment for them:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray for a spirit of thanksgiving that we have the health to work: may we count our blessings that we can work each day and may we perform all our tasks with gladness and dedication:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, who always sought God’s will: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray in silence for our own intentions.

PRIEST

God our Father, we pray to you that we may come to understand your ways. May we learn to praise you constantly for all your gifts to us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
