Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

Nothing must come in the way of our following of Jesus Christ. Let us pray to the Lord, therefore, for a clearer understanding of his call.

READER

Let us pray for the leaders of the Church: may they always value the poor in spirit who follow the example of Christ himself, those who become poor for our sake that we might become rich in God’s love:  (pause) … Lord hear us.

We pray for those who work to alleviate poverty in the world: may they see their work, not merely in economic terms, but as part of their commitment to the person of Christ whom they find in the poor, the oppressed and the hungry:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

May those who are obsessed by the desire for wealth find true security in God’s love. May they recognise that wealth alone will not bring them serenity and peace of soul:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for a great love of the person of Christ: that we may surrender everything of ourselves in order to follow him who alone is the treasure of our lives:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Mother of Christ, who knew true poverty, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

In silence, we pray to God our Father for all our intentions.

PRIEST

God our Father, we make our prayers that we may always be content to be rich in your love and grace. We do this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
