Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

Saint Peter and Saint Paul are two of the greatest saints in the Church and so, together with them, we pray to the Lord for all the graces for the Church in today’s world.

READER

We pray for our Holy Father, the successor of Saint Peter: may he be so guided by the Holy Spirit and strengthened in faith and love that the world will listen to his voice:  (pause) …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for unity among Christians: may they understand that the differences between Saint Peter and Saint Paul were finally resolved by their common desire to proclaim the divinity of Jesus Christ. May all Christians follow their example of unity in Christ:  (pause) …  Lord hear us.

Let us remember those whose faith is weak: may they be given the grace, like Saint Peter, to acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God and on this firm rock of foundation, to build their faith:  (pause) …  Lord hear us.

We pray for a greater apostolic spirit in the Church: may all Christians be inspired by the example of Saint Paul, who became the great Apostle of the Gentiles, because of his desire to preach the Gospel: (pause) …Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Queen of Apostles, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

In the silence of faith we make our personal petitions to God our Father who loves us and cares for us.

PRIEST

God our Father, may the prayers we have made, in union with Saints Peter and Paul, bring about the spread of your kingdom. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
