Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

Christ in the Eucharist is our daily food as we journey to the Father. Let us ask him, on this our earthly pilgrimage, for all those graces which we need to help us on our way.

READER

We pray for contemplative monks and nuns whose special calling is to a life of prayer and adoration: may they, by their lives, be instrumental in bringing God’s grace and blessing to the Church and the world:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for Catholics in government: may they begin their day’s work in prayer, and wherever possible, receive the Eucharist as the spiritual strength for their daily task:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

For those tempted to give up the spiritual struggle: may they recall the story of Elijah. In their journey on the road of suffering, may they find the heart to put their trust in Christ, especially in the darkness of their pain: (pause) … Lord hear us.

We pray for an atmosphere of peace and caring within the community: may we each forgive each other from our hearts and never forget that those who share at the Lord’s table should always live in mutual, loving peace:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Mother of Christ and our Mother, as we say together: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray for our own intentions in silence to God our Father who heeds our every request.

PRIEST

God our Father, we pray to you with confidence knowing that, having called us on our pilgrimage, you never desert us, but constantly nourish, feed and encourage us. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
