Second Sunday of Advent (B)

God our Father is faithful to his promises, and he has promised us through his Son, Jesus Christ, that there will be a new kingdom. Let us pray in this season of preparation that he will make us ready for that kingdom.

Let us pray for the whole Church: may each member, by holiness of life, help to bring about God’s kingdom on earth:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray for the rulers and leaders of the countries in our world: may they promote justice for all, seek truth in all difficult negotiations and work for long-term peace among the nations:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us remember those who find the burden of life almost too hard to bear: may they find consolation and encouragement in a simple faith in God who speaks to their hearts, his Gospel message of hope and love: (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for all those who have died, especially our loved ones: may they rejoice in the Lord who is risen from the dead. May the bereaved find consolation in him:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Mary prepared a very special way for the Lord and with her we pray: Hail Mary .. etc

In silence, we ask God to answer our petitions and fulfil our many needs.

God our Father, you have prepared a place for each of us in your kingdom. May we also prepare a place for you in every aspect of our daily lives. We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
