Second Sunday In Ordinary Time

Priest:

We turn to Almighty God with our own needs and the needs of the world, praying particularly that he will send us grace and peace.

Reader:

We pray that all members of the church will be servants to one another, paying attention to each others needs and supporting those in difficulties. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for everyone involved in education, teachers and support staff, catechists and youth workers, and leaders of uniformed organisations, that they will help young people to fulfil their potential and become confident, cheerful and caring members of the community. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that we may be faithful followers of Jesus, attentive to his teaching and living according to his gospel. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all who are sick, at home or in hospital, and for the elderly and housebound, may they all experience Christ’s healing love. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who have died, that they may rejoice with the Saints in the eternal happiness of heaven. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We ask Our Blessed Lady to pray with us as we say Hail Mary…

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Trustfully we bring all of our needs to God in prayer.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Priest:

We turn to God in prayer and ask him for all our needs.

Reader:

Jesus’ sermon on the mount today is an inspiration for our future and a measure for our past. May our young people so grow in faith that, inspired by Jesus’ words, they change the world through the witness of their lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

God’s words of loving kindness and humility are gradually transforming the world. We pray for the strength of love to make them a meaningful part of our own lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

As we gather our strength for these seven weeks of Lent, we prepare to engage with those big questions about where we stand in our lives, and how they are serving your world plan. We ask God to give us strength in this live-giving engagement throughout this weeks – and also throughout our lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all children awaiting a permanent and loving home through fostering or adoption. May many generous and compassionate people be found who will open their hearts and their homes to meet the needs of these little ones. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the repose of the soul of those for whom this mass is being offered and also for Brian Caherty who died on Friday. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Christ is the light of the world. We now ask our heavenly Father to listen to our prayers as we place all our hope in Him:

We pray for the needs of the church, and especially for John Paul, our Pope, Declan, our Bishop, and for priests and clergy everywhere. May they continue to be shining examples of God’s love throughout the world. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for ourselves that we may be ready to follow Christ wherever he leads us, even if the direction is unexpected or demanding. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that all nations may rejoice in the light of goodness, may turn away from quarrels and injustice, and reject the darkness of evil. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that in the brightness of love, Jesus Christ may be revealed, turning those with doubt to faith, those in despair to hope and those in sorrow to joy. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that no opportunity may be lost to share in the peace of Christ with those we meet in our daily lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Sixth Sunday of the Year

Priest:

We turn to God in prayer and ask him for all our needs.

Reader:

We pray for our Holy Father and the bishops of the church, that through their teaching and preaching they may challenge us to follow Christ’s way of love. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the young people who became full members of our church through the Sacrament of Confirmation last Friday night, that they may experience the power of the Holy Spirit in all that they do (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that all married couples in our community may experience the warmth of God’s love in their relationships. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that in the coming season of Lent we may experience a spiritual renewal in our lives as we unite ourselves with the sufferings of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those in any kind of need particularly the poor, the suffering, the persecuted and the homeless, may they experience through the kindness of their neighbours the healing love of our Saviour. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those that have died and gone before us in faith, may they rise to new life with the saints for ever in heaven. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Seventh Sunday of the Year

Priest:

We turn to God in prayer and ask him for all our needs.

For the church that it may grow in God’s love, and for an end to the division among Christians. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For all families, for parents without partners, for the single, widowed, divorced and separated, that their lives be full of love and kindness, (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For those who are angry and bitter with their neighbours, that they may realise that giving into feelings of resentment and hatred only separates them from God, (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We remember in a special way the sick and the elderly. May they be encouraged by the words and comforted by the actions of those who care for them. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the dead that they may share in the peace and happiness of God’s kingdom. (pause)Hear our prayer. Lord, in your mercy,

Ninth Sunday of the Year

To the God of love and justice we offer our prayers this day:

Reader:

We pray for Pope Benedict, Bishop Declan, Father Alex, Father Charles and all religious leaders, may they continue to be guided by you in their vocations. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the faith to follow God’s ways. In a materialistic and secular world, we pray that we may hold dear to what is of real and lasting value. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray to the God of all for greater compassion and an end to religious and racial intolerance. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray to the God in whom we trust for all who are anxious, and all who are worried by the needs and demands of our world. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for a greater longing and devotion to Christ’s sacrificial banquet in this Year of the Eucharist. May the gift of the Eucharist shine as the light and strength in our daily lives. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who have died and those who mourn for them, we remember especially the school children that died in the coach crash in Ireland this week. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

As we conclude this month of May, we now ask Mary to intercede for us in all our prayers as we say Hail Mary…

God our Father, we ask you to listen to the prayers of your people, conscious of our sins and in need of your redeeming love. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Priest:

We turn to God in prayer mindful of all our needs.

Reader:

Jesus tells us that he came to call sinners. Let us remember that we are those sinners, and daily ask God’s forgiveness. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

May our Pope, Cardinals, Bishops and clergy, remember that they, like Pope John Paul are the servants of the servants of God, and bring to their tasks humility and love. Let us pray for them, that the grace of the Holy Spirit may guide them daily. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Abraham’s joy in life, his son, came in his old age. Let us remember to treat the elderly with respect for the knowledge of their years, and to understand the limitations of the flesh which comes with age without irritation and condemnation. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Illness and pain drain the sufferer, mentally and physically. Let us pray to God to help those who are sick and hurt, wrapping them in the comforting blanket of care, love and prayer. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We remember all those who mourn – especially those in our own families and parish. May the healing power of God’s grace pour down upon them, easing their grief and showing them the love and support of community. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us turn to Mary, Mother of Jesus the Christ, as we say Hail Mary …

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Priest:

We turn to God in prayer mindful of all our needs.

Reader:

The image of the Good Shepherd runs continually through our Gospels. May we turn with joy to the safe fold which is God’s Church, and to Him who has promised us salvation. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

In all our lives there are times of darkness, when prayers become merely words, and we seem to have to search and search to find God. When those times come, let us place our trust in Him, knowing that if we wait and continue to pray, Jesus will find us. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us pray for family life. May we support each other, love each other and mitigate the irritations of close living with affection. May our family units be safe havens in which all members can grow and mature. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us pray for those who have no family. May they find the love, which all of us seek, in God -but also in our community, each of us reaching out to those in need. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those making their first Holy Communion next week, remembering our own first Eucharist, and the prayers and dedications we too made. May God bless them, may they remain close to Him always, with Mass and Holy Communion a way of life, and a life-long source of comfort and grace. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for Salvatorian Priests, Brothers, Sisters and Lay People throughout the world that they remain ever faithful to the vision of Father Jordan that all people come to know the Divine Saviour. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the Beatification of Father Francis Jordan, that the Church will soon will give official recognition of his holiness and zeal. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Twelfth Sunday In Ordinary Time

As children of our loving Father let us pray now for the needs of the Church and of the world.

Reader:

We pray for the courage to declare ourselves for Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour in the presence of men, so that those who we meet may know how valuable they are in the sight of God. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all victims of violence and terrorism, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. We pray for prisoners of conscience, that God will vindicate them and rescue them from their enemies. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the sick of the parish, for our friends and family members who are ill or distressed. We pray for those who are lonely or depressed, anxious or in debt. May the Lord use us to bring comfort to them, and some relief from affliction. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who are indifferent to the Gospel, or blind to the reality of the spiritual world. May the grace of God enlighten the eyes of their hearts, to see what hope his call holds for them. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We continue to pray for the children who made their first holy communion last week, that they will continue to grow strong in faith and stay close to you Lord. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As children of our loving Father let us pray now for the needs of the Church and of the world.

We pray for the unity of all Christians in faith and charity. May the Holy Spirit overcome all the barriers and obstacles separating the churches so that the world may see and believe in the one Lord of all. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the forthcoming G8 Summit in Scotland, that the leaders of nations gathered there may be granted true wisdom about the problems of world development and trade, the future of Africa, and climate change. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the people of Zimbabwe and Burma and all victims of dictatorial regimes. We pray for all those made homeless, imprisoned or persecuted in these countries. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We pray for ourselves, that we may have the courage to follow Christ’s call in our daily lives, and take up our cross and follow him where he calls us to be. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are sick or suffering, for those depressed or anxious, those in hospital or recovering from operations, especially Clare Williams. We pray for nurses, doctors and medical staff, and all those looking after the sick, that Christ will strengthen and develop their gifts of healing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Twenty First Sunday of the Year

We pray for our Holy Father. May he be inspired by the Holy Spirit as he continues the work of St.Peter in guiding the church through difficult times. (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary

Priest:

As the summer holidays draw to a close, let us turn to God to ask his help with the challenges that await us in the coming season.

Reader:

Let us pray for our children and teachers as they embark on the new academic year. May our schools be places where a love of learning prevails, teaching us to think with new minds, to know what is good and to learn what it is that God wants. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us pray for ourselves that as we accept the challenges of our everyday lives, we may be overpowered by God and be unable to resist the truth no matter how uncomfortable or foolish it makes us feel. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

May the outcome of the Johannesburg summit lead to an addressing of this situation in a world where so many of us live in luxury whilst others lack the basic necessities of life. As we hear St. Paul’s summary of the commandments, “Love your neighbour as yourself,” let us bring our own petitions to God.

We pray that we may truly learn to love ourselves. Let us respect, value and care for our bodies, minds, feelings and innermost thoughts, holding them in high regard as part of the miracle of God’s creation. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us learn to love our neighbour as ourselves: to see each other as fellow human beings, made in God’s image, but with our own distinctive virtues, abilities, flaws and problems. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

As we approach the anniversary of the September 11th atrocities, let us pray for all victims of terrorism, including those who feel driven by unjust structures or lack of love to resolve their grievances in this way. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

On this Day of Prayer for Racial Justice let us pray that men and women of different religions, cultures and races may recognise one another as brothers and sisters, seeing in you the light that shines in the darkness of conflicts and disunity. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray that the God of peace be with us all. Make us understand that this is only possible when we fill our minds with everything that is true everything that is good and pure everything that can be thought virtuous and worthy of praise  (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

In our gospel reading we are reminded that the prophets of old were rejected some stoned some killed. To-day in many parts of the world the followers of Jesus suffer rejection, torture and imprisonment. In our own godless society the truths of the gospel are ignored help us dear Lord to preach your Good News through the example of our lives. (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

We pray for all or deceased relations and friends those lately dead and those who have no-one to pray for them grant them eternal rest  (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary and on Friday we celebrate the feast of the Holy rosary in the presence of Our Blessed Lady we meditate on the mysteries of her son’s life kneeling at her feet she turns the pictures of her family album let us deepen out knowledge and love of Jesus through a devout and frequent recitation of the Holy Rosary  (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Mankind has spread over most of our globe. We pray that those of us born in the wealthy, industrialised world will thank God for the blessings we take for granted, food, clean water and shelter. May we always remember those less fortunate than ourselves, and give generously of our prayers, our time and consideration, and our money. (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

We pray for our families, that we may appreciate the blessings that family life imparts, cope with the irritations it sometimes brings, and remember those we have loved who have died and gone to God. (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus has warned us against being proud or superficial. The prophet Malachi spoke to us in a similar way in the First Reading. Conscious of our failings, we humbly ask for God’s grace to listen to the prayer that we make today.

We pray for our Church, for Benedict, our Pope, and Bishops and Priests everywhere. May they, like St. Paul, continue to proclaim the Good News to the world through the gift of the Holy Spirit. (pause) Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

First Sunday of Advent

We look towards the mountain of the Lord, eager for his coming and we turn to God in trust and certainty that He will listen to our prayers.

Wednesday 1^st December is World AIDS Day. We pray especially for all those who suffer from, are affected by, or have died from Aids and the anguish, suffering and prejudice that Aids can bring. We also remember those who minister and care for them.  (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

In this year of devotion to the Eucharist, we remember in receiving Christ in communion that we are truly present at the Last Supper and the Banquet of Heaven. May the Eucharist we share change our lives so that we may demonstrate love, reconciliation and universal brotherhood in our daily lives.  (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

In these troubled days, we pray for peace, justice and harmony throughout the world and that the coming of the saviour child may be a sign of hope and bring about true and lasting peace.  (pause) Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Second Sunday of Advent

As we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent, we place our confidence in you, Lord, to answer our petitions.

Priest:

In the first Reading Isaiah preaches that God does not judge by appearances or listen to hearsay. Let us pray that we will be able to follow Isaiah’s teaching when we meet people, and try to be non-judgemental in our relationships. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We hear St Paul in his Epistle, urge us to be more tolerant and to treat people in the friendly way Jesus did. Let us pray that tolerance and peace become enshrined in our world, and that enmity, retribution and war, especially in Israel and Palestine. can be overcome with God’s healing grace. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

In the Gospel we hear how John the Baptist commands us to “Prepare a way for the Lord” Let us pray that we may prepare ourselves spiritually, as well as we can, for the coming of the Christ Child. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Let us remember those people who are sick, physically or mentally. Let us pray that they may be comforted by those who care for them, that they do not suffer alone, and that God’s love will nourish and heal them. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Our Parish serves Eastwood Park Prison, providing Mass, friendship and counselling. Let us pray that all prisoners and staff may benefit from the work there, and that God will give our priests and volunteers the skills, strength and patience, to undertake this difficult work. Third Sunday of Advent

As we celebrate the Third Sunday of advent, we place our confidence in you Lord, to answer our petitions:

In the first reading, Isaiah tells us that God is coming to save us, to give us everlasting joy. Let us pray that we will be able to trust in God’s goodness and have faith that all will be well. (pause) Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer.

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Christmas Day

On this blessed day we turn to God in prayer.

Reader:

Now we celebrate the birth of a baby boy over two thousand years ago. Let us pray that we may follow the example of the shepherds long ago, and glorify and praise God in our hearts, with our voices and in how we live our lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Many people will be travelling over the Christmas holidays. Let us pray that we ourselves show concern for other travellers, and do all we can to avoid accidents. We also pray for the Emergency Services who are always there when needed. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Not everyone will be able to enjoy Christmas, perhaps through illness, poverty, unhappy relationships, or other difficulties. Let us pray that we may try to help those in need, and to be as thoughtful and caring as we can, in our relationships. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Many people will not be at home this Christmas, those in hospital and residential accommodation, those in prison, and of course the homeless. Let us pray that those who care for people far from home, may be able to let the Spirit of Christmas shine through their lives and their caring. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Third Sunday of Easter

In the First Reading, Peter tells the crowd what David said of God: ”He will fill us with gladness through his presence”. Let us pray that we will be filled with gladness this Eastertide. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

The Second Reading reminds us of the resurrection which gives us faith and hope in God. Let us pray that our faith and hope survive any wounds and difficulties we encounter, and that we survive enriched by God’s love. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

On this World Communications Day, we pray for all those who work in radio, TV films, the Press and all the other fields of communication. We pray for all missionaries, evangelists, catechists and communicators who are seeking to proclaim Christ in all sorts of places and situations. Feast of the Ascension

As Christians gathered together in faith, let us be still and pray together.

Our parish cannot function without the efforts of the many parishioners who contribute in so many ways, often behind the scenes and unnoticed. We give thanks for them and all their hard work. We pray for all those who are persecuted, down-trodden and oppressed because of their faith in you. Grant that your church may protect and guide them in their work of spreading your Gospel. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

Feast of Christ the King

Christ is our Lamb as well as our Shepherd, our Suffering Servant as well as our Triumphant King. On this our great patronal feast we recognise the many aspects of your Kingship as we bring our requests to the Lord:

As this is our feast day, let us pray for all members of our parish. Give us the grace to minister to and be reconciled with each other as we work towards establishing your reign here on earth in communion with your Kingdom in heaven. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

Let us pray for the young people of our parish. In their lifelong search for meaning, purpose and truth, they may stray, be scattered, wounded, weakened, but let them be encouraged, for You always have them in view and Your goodness and kindness will follow all the days of their life. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

When Lord, in our local community, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger, or naked, sick or in prison? As you judge us Lord, forgive us for our blindness, and give us the grace to see. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

Adam is the representative of humanity, in whom all die; Christ, the representative of the new creation, through whom all live. In this month of the Holy Souls, we pray for all past parishioners who have gone to their rest in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection. May they sleep in the peace of Christ. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

O God, who ‘remains all in all’, accept our world as our humble gift back to you. Redeem its social, political, corporate and environmental evils. Help us nurture your marvellous creation, so that it may bring forth further fruits to enrich your Kingdom. (pause) Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer

We turn now to Mary, the handmaid of the Lord, Seat of Wisdom, and Queen of Heaven as we say: Hail Mary….
