20th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

God our Father is generous to us with the gifts of faith and wills the salvation of all people. Let us now pray for the spread of his Kingdom.

READER

Let us pray for the mission of the Church: may she continue to proclaim Christ’s Gospel to everyone. May the light of his truth be brought to all peoples through the teaching and example of his Church:  (pause)  … Lord hear us.

We pray for Christians in our government: may their faith and love be manifest in every aspect of their public lives so that they may be good leaders of the people they are sworn to serve:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

For those who are searching for God: that we may help them to build on their natural goodness so that, aided by our prayers and example, they may come to the knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ.  (pause)  … Lord hears us.

Let us pray for Christian unity: that we may not put obstacles in the way of other Christians. May we understand and fully appreciate that our belief in Christ is our unity and mission:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary who brought Jesus into our world, as we say together: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray in silence for our own intentions for a moment or two, trusting that God will hear and answer us.

PRIEST

God our Father, you forgive us our sins and give us the gift of faith. May your mercy and forgiveness be known to everyone. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
