Seventh Sunday of Easter (B) (Communications Sunday)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

The celebration of Communications Sunday reminds us of the importance of  being a Christian people in today’s world. Let us pray that we are able to use all means of communication to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

READER

We pray for the Church: that her leaders may be examples of good communicators who are prepared to listen and hear in a spirit of helpfulness and faith:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

May those who govern not use the media simply to score points against their opponents but rather, to promote the causes of those who are deprived of what they need for dignified human living:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for those who work in the media industry: in television, radio, films, newspapers, periodicals, and the internet. We pray too for advertisers, novelists, technicians, editors, journalists, and printers. May their work be valued and may they be encouraged always to strive after truth and quality in reporting news events and stories to the public:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

For those who are suffering: the ones brought into our living rooms from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Afghanistan, Syria, the Ukraine and other places by the media. May we never become oblivious to their cries for help:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

And finally, for all of us in our own lives: may we use every means at our disposal to improve communications both with one another and the wider community:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us unite our prayers with Mary, Mother of God and the Church, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray in silence for our own personal intentions.

PRIEST

Lord God, Father of the human family, hear our prayer and grant that every human communication may be the reflection of your love. May your Spirit always inspire our efforts and initiatives in communicating the Gospel in our daily lives. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
