Second Sunday in Lent (B)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

God our Father did not spare his own Son but gave him up so that we would find salvation. We pray to him for a deeper understanding of suffering in our lives.

READER

Let us pray for the Church in her times of trial: may she be sustained in every difficulty in the knowledge that God will not allow her to suffer more than she can bear. May she continue to proclaim the Gospel in the face of bitter persecution:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

Let us pray for the leaders of our country: may they, especially in this day and age, uphold the Christian way of life and withstand the onslaughts of those who reject Christ and the Gospel he preached: (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

For all those who suffer persecution on account of race, colour or creed: may they, by their actions, seek to break the cycle of violence and revenge, turning to God to support them in their difficulties: (pause) … Lord hear us.

Let us pray for all those who suffer loneliness, illness or bereavement, especially those from our own community: may they understand that God, in making them one with the suffering of Christ, will deliver them from  their sorrow:  (pause)  …  Lord hear us.

We make our prayer with Mary who suffered the loss of her only Son, as we pray with her: Hail Mary … etc.

We pray in silence for our own intentions.

PRIEST

God our Father may the glory revealed in our Lord’s Transfiguration sustain us on our journey, especially when the going is tough. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ your Son, in union with the Holy Spirit. Amen.
