8th Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST:
The words of Jesus, which brought the Good News of salvation, flowed from a life lived in union with his Father. Let us pray to the Lord for the grace to live a good life and to witness to his power working among us.

READER:
We pray for all God’s people: may the love of God be in their hearts so that, through their lives being one with him, others may come to believe. Lord hear us.

Let us pray for those engaged in politics: may they desist from seeking to score political points and use their words and arguments in a way which will enhance the dignity of others. Lord hear us.

For those hurt by harsh words: may they forgive from their hearts those who have caused the hurt and not brood over what has been said or done. Lord hear us.

Let us pray for greater peace in the world: may those who use violence to further their cause realise the utter futility of their actions. May they learn to listen to the voice of the Lord who for ever urges us to seek solutions to human problems founded on respect for the individual. Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Mother of the Word made flesh: Hail Mary … etc.

In silence, we pray for our own intentions to God, who knows what is in our hearts.

PRIEST:
God our Father, your Word made flesh gives meaning to our lives and our very existence, and so we bring you our prayers. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
