17th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)

BIDDING PRAYERS

PRIEST

We share a priceless treasure, our faith. With confidence, we ask God our Father for all the graces to live out that faith in today’s world.

READER

We pray for the Church: may she continue to keep before our minds the faith which she has been commissioned to proclaim. May she continue to encourage all her members to model their lives on Jesus Christ: (pause) … Lord hear us.

Let us pray for those who make judgements affecting our society: may they treasure that special wisdom from God on how to discern good and evil and so reflect God’s plan for the human race:  (pause) … Lord hear us.

For writers and poets who suffer for their Christian faith: may they continue to share their spiritual insights with others and encourage the free world by a faith which refuses to be silenced by threats and imprisonment: (pause) … Lord hear us.

We pray for a deeper faith within the community: in all the changes which life in the Church brings, may we always enjoy a profound and unshakeable faith in the deeper truths which never change:  (pause) … Lord hear us.

We pray with Mary, Seat of Wisdom, as we say: Hail Mary … etc.

We make our prayers in silence to God our Father, full of trust in his infinite wisdom and love.

PRIEST

God our Father, we ask you for the gift of wisdom to know your will and the grace to fulfil it. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
